April 2008

Small and mid-size companies looking to poll their customers or prospects may find it useful to create and promote their own "in house" surveys for customer satisfaction, customer profiles, employee surveys, education surveys, 360 reviews, healthcare surveys and the like.

If such a survey is attractive but budget constraints preclude contracting with an outside firm, you may want to consider some of the services available on line. Three of them are listed. These are not endorsements and, as with everything you try for the first time, remember to test, test and test. Then test again.

Do note that each of these does require a (free) registration including an email address, which may subject you to regular follow up communications from the company.

Survey Console
After registration, you can create a free survey to get a sense of how it works. But the free sample limits you to ten questions.

Key Survey
After registration, you can have a 30 day free trial. The questions and templates are pre-determined. If you have your own ideas or questions, then the options may not meet your needs.

Survey Gizmo
After registration, you can also create a free survey, but there seems to be no limit to the number of questions, and you can create your own.
